This year, Stratford students helped out too and participated in a Coin Drive contributing to Light the Night.? Light the Night is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?s evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation?s night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.? We are pleased to announce that our Stratford San Jose campus alone was able to contribute $1,613.07! Students from preschool - 5th grade worked hard to save pennies they found at home, requested from their parents, neighbors and family members, and brought them to school in an effort to help those suffering from blood cancer. Through classroom discussions and wonderful lesson plans that the teachers put together, students learned about Leukemia and Lymphoma and the effect it has on people. The children immediately wanted to help contribute to research funds as they are hopeful that one day scientists and doctors will discover a cure. Stratford is so proud of our students for being such caring and compassionate members of their communities. Their desire and motivation to host this coin drive, shows that children can make a big difference in our world.?Last year, I had the privilege to walk along the Stratford Stars team for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society?s Light the Night event in downtown San Jose.? It was wonderful to see our community come together to support families affected by blood cancer.??? This year, when asked if we wanted to participate in a Coin Drive, we jumped at the chance.? I was amazed to see children as young as preschool come to school each and every morning with bags of coins.? One day I hope they understand that a small deed can make a great impact, especially when we all join together,? Said Allison Weiss, Preschool Principal. ?As the Presidential election begins for our nation, we look to find our internal leaders at Stratford.? Our student body selected peers that embodied good character and are committed to making positive changes in their school.? Throughout the course of the year, they will be responsible for similar works of charity like the Coin Drive,? She added.
